Casa Miriam is a holiday home rented out by a private individual. Tourists are more than welcome in Cuba. They have several accommodation options to choose from, ranging from luxury, all-inclusive resorts and 'standard' hotels run by the government, to private houses, apartments and rooms. In all cases, the government has a strong influence in order to maintain the communist system. Individuals with a room or house for rent to tourists, are required to have a government license. To obtain such a license, the landlord has to pay a large amount of monthly taxes, whether there are guests or not!

This means that many private holiday houses have had to close their doors, while others try to survive by illegally renting out. Casa Miriam has an official license. You can recognize licensed holiday rooms and houses by an official sign at the door.

Who or what is HouseInHavana.com?

HouseInHavana.com is not an organization, but a purely private, non-commercial website. The administrator of this site has had very good experiences with the offered holiday home and wants to make a contribution to the welfare of the landlady. There are no brokerage costs calculated. The proceeds will go entirely to the landlady. However, she will pay a big share of them as a taxes to the Cuban government.

If you come come to Havana "haphazardly", be prepared to pay extra for each night as a "tout" will bring you to a private room or holiday home. If you book Casa Miriam through this site, there is no extra fee charged!! (See the paragraph below.)
